Our Distinctive Values

The Oasis Church ALAMO

TRAINING NEW LEADERS

2 Corinthians 2:2 says:

“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”

This church is preparing for the future. We want to leave

leadership and a church DNA behind that will flourish in the future regardless of what Satan throws at this body of believers.

That means focusing on raising up leaders within the church. That is why our family, children, and student ministries are so key to what we do. These leaders must be qualified to teach others.

Although our primary mission is to MAKE DISCIPLES THAT MAKE DISCIPLES, we also are focused on MAKING LEADERS THAT MAKE LEADERS.

OASIS IN THE DESERT

Isaiah 43:19 says:

“Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.”

We believe that God wants to do a new thing here in the desert where we live. A spiritual oasis of calm in the center of the city. A spiritually fertile spot in the desert where living water can be

found.

We want to be a body of believers that God can freely work through to accomplish his mission here in our community. To accomplish his goals not our own.

CREATE SAFE PLACES

Matthew 9:10-13 says:

“Later, Matthew invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners…Jesus said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do…for I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”

We must intentionally create environments that are less confrontational for the lost that we are trying to reach. This includes building trusting relationships, using our homes as an introduction to Christian fellowship and safer place to ask questions, and using bridge events to remove the stigma of being in a church.

A place where:

S – Spiritual conversations happen with the unsaved.

A – Answers are available to the unsaved persons questions.

F – Friendships are built that create trust with the unsaved.

E – Entry points are created to get the unsaved into the church.

This can be training in building relationships and carrying on spiritual conversations. Having Bible studies in the homes of our members throughout the community. Celebrate Recovery in the Counseling Center as opposed to the church campus. Events like the Light Festival.

ALL ARE WELCOME

Romans 15:7 says:

“Therefore, welcome one another, just as Christ also welcomed you, to the glory of God.”

We want to ensure that all guests are not only welcome but experience a welcoming environment. This includes social media, greeting ministry, welcoming facilities, safe and secure facilities, and most of all friendly members that greet and assist every guest that arrives.

We believe that our church should ultimately reflect our community.

LOVING FAMILY

John 13:34-35 says:

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Did you know the Bible says God expects you to lay down your life for other Christians? 1 John 3:16. That’s love in action.

The Bible teaches that if we don’t love other Christians, we can’t say that we really love God. Also, our witness to our community and subsequently their openness to our message, is determined by what they observe about the relationship we have with each other.

AN INTENTIONAL DISCIPLESHIP

Matthew 28:19-20 says:

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. “

Our mission is clear, make disciples that go and make more disciples. It is a matter of multiplication. Our mission then is to Go out and Get the lost, Grow them up in Christlikeness, and send (Go) them back out to Get more lost to send through the process.

And this process is what brings Glory to God.

However, none of this will happen automatically. We must have an intentional process to move people along in the continual process. That is why we have our Circles of Commitment and Life Development Process.

MEMBERS ON MISSION

Acts 1:8 says:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

The ultimate goal for our church is to have every member out in the community living as a missionary. We would gather together for worship, discipleship, fellowship and ministry, and then scatter back out into the community for evangelism.

To get there, we must teach our members that their call to salvation was a call to be on God’s mission of sharing the Gospel in our world. We must equip every member for carrying out that mission and give them all the resources, support, and encouragement needed to finish their task.

OUTWARD FOCUS

Matthew 28:19 says:

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations…”

We were left on this earth to reach the lost and bring them into the kingdom to glorify God. We weren’t saved to sit and wait for Christ to return. We were saved to go and serve him until he returns. Our focus is upward to God and outward to the ones that are still lost. Churches that turn their focus inward abandon their mission and die.

We will continue to love and minister to each other but never forget we are here to finish Jesus’ mission of reaching the lost.
